Atlanta History Center

The Atlanta History Center is located in the Buckhead district of Atlanta, Georgia. It comprises a history museum, a research library and archives, two historic houses (including the Philip Trammell Shutze designed Swan House) and a series of gardens all of which are located on 33 acres (13.4ha) of grounds. Since July 2004 it has also included the Margaret Mitchell House & Museum.

The Kenan Research Center includes 3.5 million resources and a reproduction of historian Franklin Garrett's office.

The history center has one of the most complete collection of military artifacts from the American Civil War period including hundreds of artillery shells and mortar balls. A new wing dedicated to the 1996 Olympics opened in 2006.

The Atlanta History Center is located at 130 West Paces Ferry Road in the heart of the Buckhead district north of downtown Atlanta.

Hours of Operation:

Monday - Saturday: 10 AM - 5:30 PM

Sunday: Noon - 5:30 PM

(Gardens close daily at 5:15 PM)
